Key West Ford Recommends Scheduling An Alignment Inspection This Winter

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 26, 2014 at 06:30AM by Lee Byard)

wheel alignment inspection winter canadaEvery Ford vehicle is carefully aligned. Each wheel is centered to precise specifications, helping drivers achieve maximum speeds and efficiency.

Winter, however, can undo those specifications - which is why Key West Ford recommends alignment inspections to all of our customers.

Road conditions worsen as the weather turns cold. Sleet and slush cause cars to skid, altering wheel angles. Structural issues - like potholes or grates - are often hidden by snow, tricking drivers into rolling over them and changing camber positions. Black ice forces vehicles into ditches, damaging the frontal casters.

These are common issues and dangerous ones. As the wheels become misaligned, their performance suffers. Steering becomes difficult and vehicles are less responsive. This can lead to many worries - from simple stalls to collisions. Drivers will pay the price for snowy days.

It’s all too easy for wheel alignments to be out-of-sync during the winter. Key West Ford suggests that all drivers visit our service department, therefore, to keep every angle straight. We’ll thoroughly inspect every car, repairing any problems and replacing parts as needed. Expect exceptional care and exceptional maintenance.

Get fully aligned this season!

2014 is proving to be no exception.

According to World Car Fans, the 2014 Geneva Motor Show will host Ford’s latest innovation: the New Focus.

It will feature a 1.5 liter gasoline or 1.5 liter diesel engine, with EcoBoost technology maximizing the potential of both. A hybrid design will deliver steady power, as well as total economy. Key West Ford Recommends Checking Drive Belts This Winter

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 24, 2014 at 09:40AM by Lee Byard)

drive belt inspection canadaA series of shocks and stress points defines every drive belt. Pulley systems consistently weaken fibers, causing them to fray over time. These options are often reduced to ribbons, and car-owners can easily find themselves without power - especially during the winter.

Key West Ford recommends that our customers pay attention to their drive belts this season.

These parts are naturally subject to high-tension situations. Their designs force them to bear endless friction and vibrations. As the temperatures fall, however, all problems intensify. Cold weather strips away micro-fibers. Exposure to sleet and snow causes misalignments, and belt slippage is common due to harsh road salts dissolving dressing solutions.

This sparks immediate - and potentially dangerous - issues for every driver, reducing the effectiveness of steering, water pumps and more.

Take advantage of Key West Ford’s service department, therefore, to combat any belt concerns. Have all items inspected thoroughly for tears. Choose centerline adjustments and dress coatings, and order replacement parts with ease. Our staff provides comprehensive winter support.

Maintaining drive belts is essential in any season. Be certain, however, to offer extra care to every car as the climate turns cold.

car exhaust winter canadaDrivers have often been warned about exhaust fumes. These colorless, odorless gasses wreak havoc on the human body, causing disorientation, hallucinations and even death.

Vehicles produce exhaust fumes in staggering amounts, releasing steady streams of carbon monoxide, nitrogen and ammonia into the air. Over 60% of all poisoning cases stem from car exposure.

Much of that percentage occurs during the winter.

Cold temperatures cause a sharp rise in fumes. Engines require greater energy to function when the temperature drops. They struggle to power their systems, utilizing more fuel and generating more heat to complete each ignition cycle. This results in higher exhaustion rates, which can then slip into car interiors (especially those that have been worn or damaged).

Key West Ford urges all drivers to have their vehicles thoroughly inspected this winter. Have them checked for any cracks, holes or tears. Monitor the condition of pipes, and even consider adding battery-powered carbon monoxide detectors to older models (these cars are more likely to develop leaks).

Exhaust fumes are extremely dangerous. Understand how they increase during the winter and protect against them. Contact Key West Ford to learn more.

Key West Ford Suggests Inspecting Vehicle Bulbs This Winter

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 20, 2014 at 03:08PM by Lee Byard)

inspect car lights canadaHeadlights and brake lights rarely excite drivers. They’d rather devote themselves to engine performance and fuel efficiency, fine-tuning their Fusions, Fiestas and Energis.

Key West Ford understands this. We simply also suggest paying close attention to vehicle lighting this winter.

As the climate shifts - bringing snow, sleet and slush to New Westminster - drivers find themselves squinting at the roads, trying to distinguish black ice from blacktop. It’s a challenge to drive even in the best conditions, and these are far from the best conditions.

Be certain that all lights are properly maintained, therefore, to provide the necessary support.

Replace any faulty lights. Clean all headlights, taillights and brake lights weekly (be sure to use a soft, damp rag to avoid damaging the lenses). If objects appear clouded and cannot be cleaned, visit a service department to have them professionally inspected. Refinishing is often possible and can be done quickly.

Test the responsiveness of each light to make sure there is no flickering, fading or weak voltage. This is essential when overcast or stormy conditions loom.

Vehicle maintenance extends to more than engines. Key West Ford wants all drivers to shine bright on the roads.

Ford Introduces More Economical Expedition

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 19, 2014 at 03:44PM by Lee Byard)

2015 ford expedition canadaSince arriving onto the automotive market in 1996 the Expedition has been a favorite of drivers. Its adaptable design and powerful mechanics have made it perfect for work or play, and it has consistently ranked among Ford’s most popular options.

That popularity is soon to soar.

According to Edmunds, the 2015 Expedition will transform sport utility vehicles. It will feature a 3.5 liter V6 engine, stabilized with EcoBoost technology and 420-pounds of torque. This will not only generate high horsepower ratios (365), but it will also ensure superior fuel efficiency. The vehicle is expected to deliver over 22 MPGs on the highway, making it a strong choice for budget-conscious drivers.

The 2015 Expedition will also feature a striking new design. 22-inch wheels, chrome exhaust pipes, LED supports and more will impress even the most particular drivers. The reinvented hatch will also please, offering an excess of space and functionality.

Ford’s Expedition has become a staple of the North American market. This won't change in 2015.

Key West Ford Urges Drivers To Replace Their Filters This Winter

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 19, 2014 at 03:29PM by Lee Byard)

change car filter winter canadaA car that runs perfectly is a car that has clean filters.

All Ford vehicles - from the Expedition to the Mustang, the Focus to the F-150, feature intricate filtration systems, overseeing air intake, fuel economy and crankcase ventilation. These operations improve a vehicle’s overall performance, directly impacting engine power, heating and more.

Key West Ford recommends that drivers take special care of their filters this winter, therefore.

Be certain to replace all filters after every 15,000 miles for primary vehicles (ones used for everyday driving in either urban or rural environments). Check their conditions monthly, however, during the winter to combat any build-ups of slush, sleet or other pollutants.

If filters show minor damage feel free to clean them. Use solvents and warm water to gently scrub away debris. Be sure to dry these items thoroughly but do not wring them out. This can cause cracks or tears.

Drivers should also consider contacting Key West Ford’s service department for full inspections. Our staff will clean or replace all filters quickly and efficiently.

Keep every car protected this winter. Monitor filter conditions.

Key West Ford Recommends Replacing Your Windshield Wipers This Winter

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 17, 2014 at 03:50PM by Lee Byard)

change windshield wipers winter canadaFord drivers - from the Mustang enthusiasts to the Fusion lovers - take pride in their cars. They carefully maintain engines and filters. They monitor fuel levels and antifreeze ratios.

What they rarely do, however, is consider their windshield wipers.

This is a mistake - especially in the winter.

Key West Ford recommends that all drivers swap their wipers this season. Traditional blades will not suffice during harsh conditions. Their lightweight designs and thin sleeves can crack or break, rendering them useless. Choose products that have instead been formulated for the winter.

These wipers - which can be ordered through Key West Ford’s parts center - feature sturdy rubber moldings and heavier frames. They effortlessly move through snow or sleet, and they can easily adapt to plunging temperatures. This allows them to remain efficient during the entire winter.

And that’s something every driver needs.

Choose winter wipers to ensure proper vehicle maintenance. Contact Key West Ford to learn more.

Key West Ford Reminds Drivers To Check Their Batteries This Winter

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 17, 2014 at 03:42PM by Lee Byard)

check car battery in winter canadaIce pummels the road; snow floods the sidewalks; and temperatures quickly fall, leaving wet air in their wake. Winter has come and drivers across New Westminster share a collective groan.

Their batteries, however, remain silent.

Cold weather destroys car batteries, seeping into systems and interfering with connectivity. Power outputs drop significantly, and charge levels fail to rise. This creates unresponsive engines.

Key West Ford reminds drivers to have their batteries regularly - and properly - serviced this season. Replace ones that are over three years old, as these are more than twice as likely to malfunction. Have power outputs tested. Check clamps for signs of corrosion, and be certain that there’s no parasitic draw.

Parasitic draw occurs when electrical systems remain active after a vehicle's ignition has been turned off. Newer models often maintain their charges, keeping hood lights, trunk lights, heated seats and other functions on. This can significantly impact batteries and cause performance issues. Drivers who suspect this problem should contact Key West Ford for a thorough inspection.

Batteries often fail during the winter. Use these suggestions to protect them against the cold.

Purchasing Winter Tires May Lower Auto Insurance Premiums

Tags:
(Posted on Feb 16, 2014 at 03:59PM by Lee Byard)

winter tires auto insuranceKey West Ford has often stressed the importance of winter tires. We’ve explained how they provide greater traction and stability. We’ve noted how their special compounds adapt to the harshest conditions. We’ve even demonstrated how they prove no more expensive than their all-season counterparts.

Some drivers, however, remain unconvinced. Winter tires, they believe, are not worth the time or the effort.

They may be worth lowered auto insurance premiums, though.

Key West Ford encourages all of our customers to contact their insurance brokers. Some firms offer incentive programs during the winter, reducing premiums to reward customers for using the right tires. These programs can eliminate hundreds of dollars from each policy per year, creating considerable savings.

Sadly, not every firm will offer these incentives. They will, however, raise the rates of drivers who are without winter tires and try to make collision claims. Expect to pay hefty totals by choosing all-season options.

Using winter tires can help drivers pad their bank accounts - which can then lead to summer road trips.

Contact Key West Ford to learn more about driving in winter. Let us also provide you with the proper tires and alignments.
